This collection focuses on the lives, struggles, and loves of Filipino lesbians—thoughtful, beautifully written stories of women in transit, searching for something they have lost and, in the process, finding the love of other women. Cruz herself wrote of her motivation: "I wrote my stories because the lesbian was practically invisible in Philippine literature, and I wanted to rectify that invisibility" . The impact was profound. Young lesbian writers found Cruz's book and said it changed their lives, encouraging them to write their own poems and stories—including a Muslim writer not yet out to her royal family. Cruz realized that her writing was not just personal but carried an obligation to a community.
